Followup to Soccer Parents!!
Hello everyone. Here for another season of junior sports. This year it's girls softball and my oldest daughter is on a great team this year. The coach and his assistants could not be nicer or more professional. The team parents all seem to be well behaved and enthusiastic for their kids without going overboard. I'm sure this is going to be a great time for my daughter and I look forward to seeing her excel with this fantastic team. Win or lose it will be a great time for her and I. Keep you all posted.

Hey ANDROID!! Where are the Music Production Apps????
I have been an Android user since day one when I pre-ordered my G1 from T-Mobile. I have been loyal to the cause from the minute I started the G1 up. I preach to my friends the benefits and have converted many of them from Iphones and Blackberrys but I feel there are certain things that Android is falling short on.
Let me explain:
I recently bought my wife an Ipad for her birthday. She is a MAC user at work and needed to be up to speed with her co-workers. I, on the other hand have avoided MAC at all costs being a loyal Android addict. I am also first and foremost a Music Producer who uses PC for all of my production needs without any problems from the onslaught of digital recording. I was considering an Android Tablet and was waiting for the bugs to be worked out and the speed to be brought up before I purchased one.
Going back to the Ipad: I ordered my wife's Ipad on EBAY and received it a few weeks before her birthday. When I opened it I felt the need to fire it up out of curiosity. I was impressed at the speed and ease of use I have to say. But what impressed me even more was when I went into the APP store and saw the vast amount of music production apps available. I was in heaven...I immediately found an APP from AKAI professional that blew my socks off. I could not believe that they could make an APP that was so well rounded and sounded so good for a Tablet!! Needless to say I purchased it and have been enjoying the process ever since.
This brings me back to my beloved Android..what is going on??? Why aren't we seeing any impressive apps like this for the little green guy??? I just can't figure it out. I know this is a specialized platform but obviously a popular one.(AKAI just produced a keyboard controller to sync up with the Ipad so you can have an all in one studio right at your fingertips). Come on developers... We musicians/producers need you to embrace our industry so we can compete with the Ipad at all levels.
Like I said, Android is my obsession as far as my phone goes (Vibrant presently...Waiting for the Galaxy S2) but when it comes to my new Tablet purchase it has got to be an Ipad 2 ... until we can get to the level that Apple has gotten to with ease of use , reliability and music production it will stay that way.
Just had to vent...
Until Next Time,

Soccer Parents
I started this blog to spread the word about our label and artists and chose to throw in a little tech whenever needed but today I have to drop a little post about what I saw yesterday at my daughter's soccer game.
This is my daughter's first year playing peewee soccer in our town and she absolutely loves it. She does not care if she wins or loses she just loves playing the game. It seems that the rest of the kids on her team feel the same...they are there to have fun...That's It!
We are 4 games in and for the last 4 weeks I have witnessed unbelievable behavior from the parents that up until now I had only read about in the papers.
Adults screaming at the top of their lungs at these kids not with encouragement but with angst and disgust as these little girls tried their best to have fun and enjoy themselves. They were yelling so loud and sternly that the kids were getting nervous during every play.....One mother screamed that her kid was not allowed to eat for a week because she let a goal go by!!
I can understand getting excited about our children playing organized sports but acting like animals and scaring our children is unacceptable.
I felt compelled to post this as it is weighing heavy on my heart.
Let me know what you think and have a great day and remember these kids are our future and the way we act will reflect on how they act when they grow.
Take Care,
JHolla

Your Music...The Way It Should Be !!!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Joe Holland aka: JHolla and Welcome to OnTop Records and Entertainment Inc. With all BS aside I'm going to tell all of you that I started this blog to promote my artists to you ,the record buying public ,but as I was thinking about what to write it came to me that this self imposed journey of incredible UPS and DOWNS might be interesting to some of you so here it goes.
Presently we have a roster of 2 incredible acts, our Rock act goes by the name 'ArthurKill' and in my professional opinion they KICK ASS and with a little luck and a lot of perserverance we may just be able to get all of you to know them in a big way.
Our Hip Hop artist goes by the name of 'Prince Culture' or 'PC' as we call him, he comes to you from Brooklyn New York and has a style all his own, he says what he wants without premise or BS ,but does it in a way where he doesn't offend anyone and yet gets his point across effectively.
These guys are my family without a doubt, I believe in them as much as they believe in me and we take each day as an adventure in trying to build something we all see to be our future and life's blood.
Our tag line is "Indie Music The Way Your Music should Be !!"
I chose this tag because after years in the business , first as a club DJ then as a commercial studio owner and producer and now as a label owner I have seen many aspects of the business and truly was not impressed. From having deals put on the table on a Friday afternoon and having them pulled off of that same table by Tuesday morning because my A&R rep got fired to seeing an entire roster of artists(25 to be exact) fall apart at the seams because a few small labels were looking for demos from them after hearing their material at a music conference to having my best friend and business partner leave me high and dry and up to my neck in debt because his fiance didn't like what he was doing because it was a dream.
All of these elements play a role in why I kept going and why I chose this tag. You see, I believe that too many people let others control what paths they should take instead of following their destiny, I am a very lucky man to have the wife that I have to put up with all of the hardships that I have bestowed upon her and my wonderful family trying to live this dream and I'm sure if I didn't have her I'd probably have followed another path that someone else had chosen for me. I am Independent and always ended up on my own so I felt that the type of music my company brought to the masses to follow the same formula.
I weeded through many artists along the way, some were incredibly talented and some just plain didn't have it. 9 out of 10 times the talented ones always thought too much of themselves to be humble enough to learn and have patience in order to perfect their talents to become superstars and ended up doing nothing at all. The less talented ones always had my heart because they would listen and try to the best they could to make it happen for themselves, I always had patience with these artists and spent as much time as I could with them to try and help them along even if I knew they weren't going anywhere. Their belief in themselves kept me along for their ride and probably stalled me for awhile , but that's OK because I learned a lot from each and everyone of them and truly wish them all the best in whatever paths they have chosen.
That brings us to today, PC and ArthurKill are my carbon copies , they've all been down some kind of bumpy road throughout their carreers before we got together and it all works like clockwork. Their work ethic is next to none and their respective talents speak for themselves.
OnTop doesn't do things the way most labels do things, you see, we've formed partnerships with all of these gentlemen and we all know that it doesn't work unless we put everything we have into it and like I said in AK's introduction maybe with a little luck and perserverance we'll make it happen some day soon.
I hope I haven't bored the crap out of all of you and truly hope to keep you entertained in the weeks to come with stories from the On Top archives as well as the day to day journey we're taking this year to break both of these artists, PC and AK both have albums coming this Summer and do hope you all take a listen and can hear what I hear everytime we finish a new song.
